Social Intelligence...

Some interesting points from this book "Social Intelligence" follow:

Did you know that we all have an "antenna" for detecting emotions before we even know it...its called the low road in the book (automatic expression and detection of emotions through the amygdla of the brain) vs. the high road of (consciously expressing and detecting emotions through the frontal part of the brain).

This why something just feel right, and something just feels wrong, because our mind detects it subconsciously, we have to be more in tune with ourselves, meditation, yoga, mindfulness teaches us that.

Did you know that emotions are immensely contagious...there is an empathatic resonance that goes on quite automatically between brains. There was a reference to being around people with toxic emotions is similar to being around people who smoke...your mind reacts to the toxicity of another's emotions its like we have a neural wifi system inside of us...

Did you know that you have mirror cells that automatically mirror what is happening around...it turns out that mirror cells are the key to learning and influencing...that is why violence on tv can be so harmful, so is all this negative programming through entertainment and advertising lure you into a lifestyle that is like a giant mouse trap...if we don't exercise our judgement, we are just like rats being manipulated...

One person can negate one's circle of being influenced by not conforming to the perverted norms of the masses...the vampire can only come in your house invited...you dont have to watch hours of senseless tv...you dont have to associate with people that take you nowwhere but down...you don't have to choose a shallow unhappy lifestyle because everyone thinks that is nivarna...

This reinforces the fact that

"One person can make a difference in the world simply by changing oneself..."

mirror neurons & the need for role models

according to this research, the massive jump in human evolution is through the development of mirror neurons...now these same mirror neurons could be the cause of our demise if we have nothing worthwhile to imitate...

i posted this recently on my facebook "there is defragmentation everywhere, social, financial, ethical...where are our saviours, our role models, our teachers to show the way ahead...so few, so far between..."

lack of physical positive role models...leaves us with no-one to imitate...causing a demise in all sorts of values...i can't think of many places where you can find great role models any more, martial arts, buddhist societies, religion, yoga, qi gong are some potentials...great people to immitate are hard to find, thats why it pays to hunt them down and associate with them whereever you can find them. Any organisation that requires self discipline, strong integrity, self reflection are potentially factories were you can find these sort of people.

maybe thats why gurus, mentors and coaches are so important in our lives, not having them is a big stumbling block in our own self actualization and true happiness...

think about those that inspire you, that show a certain amount of self-discipline, that bring joy to others just in their presence and conversations, those that display compassion, those that display integrity....now those are the people you want to associate with, as you will find that you will automatically start mirroring them through repeated contact with them, and in the process change your own hardwiring for the better...

Tweet - the wolf you feed...

I took this from the buddhist bootcamp facebook status, loved it so much I had to tweet it...

An old man told his grandson, "There is a battle between two wolves inside of all of us. One is Evil (it is anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego), and the other is Good (it is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy and truth)." The boy asked, "Which wolf wins?" And the old man quietly replied, "The one you feed".
